At the same time, loneliness remains one of the biggest public health challenges facing older adults, with hundreds of thousands reporting that they often feel isolated from family and friends.

Despite the rise of digital communication, mainstream social media platforms have largely been designed around speed, endless content, advertising and complex interfaces. For many elderly and vulnerable users, particularly those living with dementia or cognitive decline, these experiences can be confusing, overwhelming or inaccessible.

Families face a different challenge. Precious photographs, videos, conversations, and life stories are often scattered across phones, messaging apps, and social networks, making it difficult to build a lasting digital record that can support reminiscence, connection, and wellbeing.

Peggi saw an opportunity to rethink social media from first principles. The ambition was to create a purpose-built digital environment centred on four key principles:
