Our Work

PEGGI.

We partnered with Peggi to design a next-generation social platform that reimagines how older and vulnerable people stay connected with the people who matter most. Rather than replicating traditional social media, Peggi was conceived as an accessible, collaborative environment that helps families preserve memories, encourage daily interaction, and reduce the barriers many older adults face when using digital technology.

IDENTIFYING THE PROBLEM

Rethinking Social Media for an Ageing Population.

The UK's population is ageing rapidly. More than 11 million people are aged 65 or over, while almost one million people are currently living with dementia. At the same time, loneliness remains one of the biggest public health challenges facing older adults, with hundreds of thousands reporting that they often feel isolated from family and friends.

Despite the rise of digital communication, mainstream social media platforms have largely been designed around speed, endless content, advertising, and complex interfaces. For many elderly and vulnerable users, particularly those living with dementia or cognitive decline, these experiences can become confusing, overwhelming, or inaccessible.

Families face a different challenge. Precious photographs, videos, conversations, and life stories are often scattered across phones, messaging apps, and social networks, making it difficult to build a lasting digital record that can support reminiscence, connection, and wellbeing.

Peggi recognised an opportunity to rethink social media from first principles. Rather than adapting an existing platform, the ambition was to create a purpose-built digital environment centred around four key principles:

  • A complete rethink of accessibility and user experience.
  • A simpler, more meaningful content structure.
  • Greater engagement between families, friends, and carers.
  • Collaborative memory building that grows over time.

The platform also needed to provide a scalable technical foundation capable of supporting future AI-powered experiences, richer communication tools, and continued innovation as technology evolves.

Key challenges included:

  • Designing an interface suitable for users with dementia, arthritis, and visual impairments.
  • Reducing complexity while maintaining meaningful social interaction.
  • Encouraging families to contribute memories and engage regularly.
  • Organising years of photos, videos, and conversations into accessible life stories.
  • Creating an architecture capable of supporting future AI features, voice synthesis, and intelligent content organisation.

CRAFTING THE SOLUTION

A Social Platform Built Around People, Not Algorithms.

Working closely with Peggi and healthcare stakeholders, we led an extensive discovery process exploring user behaviours, accessibility requirements, AI opportunities, and long-term product strategy.

Instead of beginning with features, we started by understanding the emotional needs of the platform's users. Every design decision was guided by a simple principle: technology should remove barriers rather than create them.

The result was a platform concept centred around Peggi Mode, a simplified experience featuring large touch targets, accessible typography, uncluttered navigation, and carefully considered user journeys designed specifically for elderly users. Administrative complexity was removed entirely from the primary user experience, allowing older users to remain connected without worrying about settings, passwords, or accidental changes.

Rather than functioning as another social feed, Peggi was designed as a collaborative family space. Shared albums, chronological timelines, group messaging, audio and video calling, and memory prompts encouraged families to actively contribute content while creating a permanent digital archive of important life moments.

Artificial intelligence formed a key part of the long-term product vision. During discovery, we explored opportunities including intelligent photo categorisation, natural language search, automatically generated timelines, AI-generated captions, and future voice synthesis capabilities that could create richer, more engaging reminiscence experiences.

Technically, the platform was architected using Flutter to support iOS, Android, and web from a single codebase, alongside Laravel and Filament to provide a secure, scalable backend and intuitive content management experience. Supporting integrations included Stream for communications, Firebase Cloud Messaging for notifications, RevenueCat for subscription management, and Amazon S3 for secure media storage. The wider infrastructure was designed around UK-hosted, ISO27001-accredited environments with GDPR and DTAC compliance at its core.

The result was a comprehensive product strategy and technical architecture designed to create a safer, simpler, and more human digital experience for older people while providing families with an entirely new way to preserve memories together.
