Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked events are always highly anticipated, and this year's second event for 2024 was no exception. Held in July, the event unveiled a range of new devices and innovations, showcasing Samsung's commitment to pushing the boundaries of technology. From foldable phones to smart rings, here’s everything you need to know about the latest from Samsung.

1. The Galaxy Ring: Samsung's First Smart Ring

A New Frontier in Wearables

Samsung's foray into the smart ring market is marked by the introduction of the Galaxy Ring. This minimalist, set-and-forget tracker is designed for 24/7 wear, offering a discreet way to monitor your health. The Galaxy Ring comes equipped with sensors to track heart rate, skin temperature, steps, and automatically log running and walking workouts. With up to seven days of battery life (six for smaller sizes), it promises to be a reliable companion for wellness tracking.

Customization and Availability

The Galaxy Ring is available in nine US standard sizes (from 5 to 13), with a free sizing kit provided to ensure a perfect fit. Colour options and availability will vary by region, so you can find a style that suits you.

2. Foldable Phones: Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6

Galaxy Z Fold 6: The Smartest Foldable Yet

While the Galaxy Z Fold 6 may look similar to its predecessor at first glance, it’s packed with improvements. Slightly shorter and wider, it features a more usable cover display and is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, tuned specifically for Samsung. This chip supports new AI features like Sketch to Image, which transforms S Pen doodles into polished images and an Interpreter app that provides two-way translations on the main and cover displays. These enhancements make the Galaxy Z Fold 6 the smartest foldable phone you can preorder right now.

Galaxy Z Flip 6: Fun and Functional

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 also brings iterative upgrades over its predecessor. With a new 50MP camera, faster Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, bigger battery, and improved durability, it stands out as a fun, modern-day flip phone. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is available in four vibrant colours: Yellow, Blue, Mint, and Silver Shadow.

3. Galaxy Watch Ultra: Supercharged for the Outdoors

The Galaxy Watch Ultra takes the Galaxy Watch 7 and elevates it for outdoor pursuits. Featuring a titanium-armoured design, a programmable Quick button, enhanced GPS, and new tools for wilderness survivability, this watch is clearly inspired by the Apple Watch Ultra. With its robust features, the Galaxy Watch Ultra is set to be a dependable companion for both the office and the great outdoors.

4. AI Tools Across Devices

Samsung is integrating smart, consumer-focused AI tools across its new devices to enhance productivity, creativity, health, and sleep. These tools are designed to help users get more done, embrace their creative side, stay healthier, and sleep better. The inclusion of AI features in the Galaxy Z Fold 6, like the Sketch to Image and Interpreter app, showcases Samsung's dedication to making everyday tasks smarter and more intuitive.

5. XR Platform: A Glimpse into the Future

In a brief but significant announcement, Google reaffirmed its XR platform plans (covering VR, AR, and MR) in partnership with Samsung. TM Roh, Samsung's President and Head of the Mobile Experience (MX) business, hinted that more details will emerge later this year, possibly at the Samsung Developer’s Conference on October 3, 2024. This collaboration promises exciting advancements in extended reality experiences.
