In review: WWDC23

Last night's WWDC23 keynote came with a whole lotta new tech for consumers to sink their teeth into, but what were the headlines?

Hold onto your hats folks! The Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) has come out with a bang in its opening address.

The star of the show? Apple's much-hyped Vision Pro headset! Yes, it's finally here, confirming all the rumours we've been spreading like wildfire. Get ready for a virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) mashup that'll have you questioning what's real and what's a digital figment of your imagination. And guess what? The headset even lets bystanders catch a glimpse of your eyes! Now that's some eye-popping technology right there!

But wait, there's more…

The Vision Pro headset isn't just a pretty face. It's got the brains to match, thanks to the super-powered M2 and R1 chips that'll make your head spin (figuratively, of course). And with its sleek design featuring a strip of glass and a digital crown that's fit for royalty, switching between AR and VR modes has never been so effortless. Oh, and did we mention the spatial audio?

Now, before you get too excited, let's address the elephant in the room: the price tag. The Vision Pro headset doesn't come cheap. You'll have to fork over a cool $3,499 and wait until next year to get your hands on one. It also doesn’t have a release date for the rest of the world yet, along with little in the way of price confirmation outside the US. They've also cooked up a fancy operating system called visionOS to take your digital interaction to the next level. With eye tracking, hand gestures, and voice commands, navigating through virtual apps and integrated icons in the real world is a piece of cake.

Feast your eyes on the new MacBook Air with its whopping 15.3-inch display. It's like having a mini IMAX theatre in your backpack! And don't worry about lugging it around because this bad boy weighs just over three pounds. Plus, with an 18-hour battery life, you can binge-watch your favourite shows without worrying about finding an outlet.

And for all you desktop enthusiasts out there, Apple's got you covered. The Mac Studio and Mac Pro are here to fulfil your computing dreams. Equipped with the mighty M2 Ultra chip, these machines are a force to be reckoned with. Whether you choose the Mac Studio with options for the M2 Max or M2 Ultra chip, or go all out with the Mac Pro and its exclusive M2 Ultra chip, you'll be in computing heaven. Of course, these powerhouses come at a price, but hey, who needs a house when you can have a Mac Pro, right?

Apple's not just about hardware. They've cooked up some nifty software updates too. Say hello to Journal, a secure and encrypted app that lets you spill your thoughts and experiences without fear of prying eyes. And with iOS 17, you'll enjoy nifty features like StandBy mode, voice message transcriptions, a safety-focused Check-In feature, and seamless sharing with NameDrop.

iPadOS 17 is here to supercharge your productivity with interactive widgets, real-time collaboration in the Notes app, and a personalised lock screen. And let's not forget macOS Sonoma, which got a fancy makeover with customisable widgets and captivating screensavers that'll make you question reality. Safari also joins the party with the ability to create and pin web apps to the Dock, as well as browsing profiles for that tailored internet experience you never knew you needed. And guess what? Apple's even got a dedicated "game mode" for macOS, so you can game your heart out while pretending to be productive.

Apple's not done yet. They've sprinkled some magic on the Apple Watch too. watchOS 10 brings you convenient widget browsing, insightful watch faces, and specialised functions for all your outdoor adventures. Cycling, hiking, you name it! The Apple Watch is here to make you feel like the adventurous, sporty persona on social media! Switch out that leather band for a silicone one and people will definitely be asking if you ran to work.

Oh, and we almost forgot about Apple TV! Get ready to FaceTime your heart out on the big screen. Thanks to the power of Continuity Camera, you can now connect with your loved ones through your TV. And the Center Stage feature? It's like having your very own personal cameraman, making sure you're always in the frame. Say goodbye to awkwardly cropped video chats!

So there you have it, folks! Apple's WWDC blew us away with its jaw-dropping announcements and mind-boggling tech. From the mind-bending Vision Pro headset to the sleek and powerful hardware updates, Apple continues to push the boundaries of what's possible. So strap on your virtual reality goggles, grab your MacBook Air, and get ready for a wild ride into the future. The possibilities are endless, and Apple's leading the way with innovation, style, and a pinch of madness.
