SMASH is on a mission to tackle obesity and improve young people’s relationship with food through education, access, and rewards. Their latest initiative sought to create a platform that helps restaurants engage better with customers, particularly in underserved communities.

The key challenges were:

  • Restaurants often lack tailored digital tools, relying heavily on social media for promotion.
  • Existing customer engagement platforms do not cater specifically to the hospitality industry’s needs.
  • A scalable solution was needed, allowing for future expansion and feature development.

A Smart, Connected Student Living App.

Through an in-depth Discovery phase, we collaborated with SMASH to define the platform’s core features, map user personas, and chart the optimal development path forward. This process enabled a deep understanding of how restaurants, food brands, bloggers, and customers would interact with the platform. By delivering a comprehensive scope of work (SOW), we gave SMASH the clarity and structure needed to make confident, informed product decisions—laying the groundwork for a solution built to scale and succeed.

Key outcomes included detailed persona development, a thorough analysis of user pain points, and a structured roadmap spanning both the consumer app and the web-based management portal. We refined UX pathways based on SMASH’s existing design concepts and built a flexible framework to support future iterations. The Discovery phase resulted in a validated proof of concept, a clear MVP plan, and an experience tailored to real user needs. With this foundation, SMASH is now poised to launch a hospitality engagement platform that not only meets industry demands but also drives healthier, more meaningful choices.
