The Client

BBMV is a joint venture between four of the world's leading construction companies: Balfour Beatty, BeMo Tunnelling, Morgan Sindall, and VINCI Construction.

They’ve worked together on some of the UK's highest profile projects, including the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL) and the Heathrow Terminal 5 tunnels. Together they’re also able to offer specialist in-house services, including Bachy Soletanche and Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering.

The Challenge

BBMV were having a big problem with their old paper-based systems. They really needed to be able to track their employees skills gap but had no real way of doing it. This, of course, meant a big move online.

They needed a system that was able to track multiple projects, and they would need a way to migrate lots of legacy data across as efficiently as possible. Above all, BBMV were concerned about security. This was such a large factor as the system would house operative data.

The Solution

We developed a solution for BBMV that would address and solve all of the issues and concerns they were experiencing. We built the system on a modular framework to allow for future extensibility. Encryption at a filesafe and database level enforced maximum security, so that was no longer a concern for BBMV.

A large data migration project was involved, in order to successfully and safely move all of the spreadsheets and the paper based information into the new platform. We also enabled staff to be trained on the system itself, allowing for a complete training and qualification process.

The Results

The system we built allows BBMV to house all of their operatives in one place. It has allowed them clear visibility over skills and training, and enabled simple skills gap analysis to be carried out at the mere click of a button. The solution also allows for full online training and has been so successful for BBMV that it is still being used today, a whole 8 years later!
